Laboratory Techniques: Implant Evaluation

Pre-implant planning includes the use of study models, diagnostic wax-ups, surgical guides, and in some cases, removable wax 'try-ins'. These aids help prevent unforeseen aesthetic difficulties that might arise, and their use can be discussed between technician and surgeon on a case by case basis.

Plastic try-in abutments are used by the technician, to assess and correct any angular problems due to bone position, and opposing dentition. These aids are considered essential when planning large or complex, implant based restorations.
