Diagnostic wax-ups enable the technician to create a mock-up of the predicted end result, of a dental restorative scheme.
It is achieved by melting adaptable wax over a Bunsen burner, which can then be sculpted onto a model to form an achievable end result. We use Amir Dentin Creawax from Tricodent.
The finished mock-up can be used to formulate a treatment plan, and to gain approval from the patient prior to commencement.
Sculpting with wax
Here a technician is creating a diagnostic wax-up at the bench. Melted wax is skillfully formed into shape by hand.
Diagnostic Wax-up Preparation 1
This is a model of a patients teeth prior to evaluation.
Diagnostic Wax-up Preparation 2
The teeth are cut back before the wax is applied to the model.
Diagnostic Wax-up Preparation 3
Finally the wax is applied and formed into shape..
Before and After
This image shows how a model looked before and after a wax mock-up was created. This can be used to demonstrate a predictable outcome.
