Laboratory Techniques: Clip Retained

Clip retained prosthetics are also known as "Over-dentures" or "Hybrid dentures". These clip retaining aids come in a variety of forms.

The first five images here demonstrate a Dolder® bar and clip design, but equally you can use ball retention or CAD/CAM precision milled bars, plus a variety of retentive elements, to retain a prosthesis.

These retentive elements are placed in either the roots of teeth (called ball root caps), or on implants as seen in these images.

Clip Retention

Replaceable retention clips are fixed into place on the underside of the prosthesis. These will snap snugly over a supporting bar.
