Laboratory Techniques: Articulators

Articulators are hinged frames that mimic the movement of the human jaw. There are many types with varying forms of adjustment. Aside to each image below is a brief description, a more descriptive document has been attached here: Articulators (pdf).

A Mortimer Articulator.

The Mortimer

Over sixty years old but still in use today!.

A Plasterless Articulator.

Early Plasterless

A plasterless articulator similar to the Mortimer.

A Galetti Articulator.

Galetti

A plasterless articulator. A lab favourite introduced in the early 1980's. Used for quick reference. Has 3 point guidance.

A Unident Articulator.

Unident ASA

The current basic lab articulator. Has average angles and 3 point guidance. An industry standard.

A Dinar Articulator.

Dinar

The most widely used "artic" in the UK. An industry standard in both semi and fully adjustable form. Widely used in Crown and Bridge work.

A Stratos Articulator.

Ivoclar Stratos

One of the top of the range artics used in the UK. Semi adjustable, it handles particularly well. It is especially suited to modern prosthetic techniques.

A Kavo Articulator.

Kavo

Arguably the finest and most versatile Articulator available. It is very expensive and not widely used, but is in our opinion - top of the class.
